Hub for Housing Justice’s Secretariat

Published in Issue 7.1 // Updates

Keywords: Housing justice, global networks, civil society, housing rights, democracy

Abstract:

This Update describes the recently launched Hub for Housing Justice, a collaborative space led by a group of international civil society networks and research organisations. By bringing together such groups with long-standing involvement in housing struggles globally, the Hub aims to advance housing justice by co-designing agendas, sharing resources, aligning advocacy efforts and promoting learning and action across different contexts. After providing some background information about its formation and partners, the Update details the four propositions the Hub seeks to advance: 1) anti-discriminatory housing policy and practice; 2) radically democratic forms of housing production; 3) housing as an infrastructure for more caring, sustainable and fairer cities; and 4) housing policy and practice that broaden imaginations for housing futures. The Update concludes by sharing reflections on the need to strengthen housing and right to the city movements in a context of shrinking civic spaces.
